Big Mantrap Lake has one of the more picturesque settings of Minnesota lakes, this is due to its diverse nature of having numerous bays, islands and channels. The numbers say the lake is 1700 plus acres, 35 plus miles of shoreline and 60 plus ft. of depth
Big Mantrap Lake is best known for its large Muskie population, but also supports fine fishing opportunities for northern pike, black crappie, large and small mouth bass as well as an array of sunfish.
Muskies in the 40 inch range are common with some going over 50 inches. These are commonly found on the edge of deep water drop offs while waiting to go into shallow water to feed.
Northern pike are very plentiful and can generally be found in the 3-4 lb. range but can go up to 10 lbs. Their habitat is very similar to that of the muskie.
Black crappie are in abundant supply but generally under 10inches, but patience can reward you with 10 inch plus catches. Crappies like heavy weed cover near shoreline or underwater weed beds, particularly in the big bay off Dead Island as well as Freemont's point.
Good large mouth bass habitat is found in the north arm around the islands and bays as well as Mirror bay.Smallmouth bass tend to be found in the main bay basin.
